Whether you’re hosting a Diwali party or just enjoying the festival at home, having a variety of easy-to-make traditional recipes can make the celebrations even more special. Here’s a complete guide to Diwali 2025 recipes that are both simple and authentic.
A classic favorite, besan ladoos are made from gram flour, ghee, and sugar. They are aromatic, soft, and perfect for gifting.
Ingredients:
2 cups gram flour (besan)
1 cup powdered sugar
½ cup ghee
¼ tsp cardamom powder
A few chopped nuts (almonds, cashews)
Method:
Roast the gram flour in ghee on low flame until it turns golden and aromatic.
Let it cool slightly, then mix in powdered sugar and cardamom powder.
Shape into round ladoos and garnish with nuts.
Soft, sweet, and coconutty, this barfi is a must-have for Diwali celebrations.
Ingredients:
2 cups grated coconut
1 cup sugar
½ cup milk
½ tsp cardamom powder
Method:
Combine coconut, sugar, and milk in a pan and cook on medium flame until it thickens.
Add cardamom powder and mix well.
Pour into a greased tray, flatten, and cut into squares once it cools.
A modern twist on the classic cashew sweet, chocolate kaju katli is rich and indulgent.
Ingredients:
1 cup cashew powder
½ cup sugar
2 tbsp cocoa powder
¼ cup water
1 tbsp ghee
Method:
Boil sugar and water to make a syrup.
Mix cashew powder and cocoa powder, then add to the syrup.
Cook until thick, spread on a greased plate, and cut into diamonds.
A crunchy snack that pairs perfectly with evening tea.
Ingredients:
2 cups flattened rice (poha)
2 tbsp peanuts
1 tbsp curry leaves
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp turmeric powder
1–2 green chilies, chopped
Salt and sugar to taste
2 tbsp oil
Method:
Roast the poha lightly in a pan and set aside.
Heat oil, add mustard seeds, peanuts, curry leaves, green chilies, turmeric, salt, and sugar.
Mix roasted poha with the tempering and let it cool.
Mathri is a deep-fried snack that stays fresh for days, making it perfect for gifting.
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup semolina (sooji)
½ tsp ajwain (carom seeds)
4 tbsp ghee
Salt to taste
Water as needed
Method:
Mix flour, semolina, ajwain, salt, and ghee to form a dough.
Roll out small discs and deep fry on medium flame until golden and crispy.
Pakoras are quick, easy, and loved by everyone during the festival.
Ingredients:
1 cup gram flour
½ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp red chili powder
1 tsp carom seeds
Mixed vegetables (potato, onion, spinach)
Salt to taste
Water as needed
Oil for deep frying
Method:
Mix gram flour, spices, and water to make a thick batter.
Dip vegetables in the batter and deep fry until golden brown.
Prep in advance: Many sweets like ladoos, barfi, and mathri can be made a few days before Diwali.
