At least 60 people, including seven soldiers, were killed in a shocking nighttime attack on a village in northeastern Nigeria, highlighting the ongoing instability and violence in the region. The village, Darul Jamal, is located near Banki in the Bama local government area of Borno State. Many of the residents had only recently returned to their homes after years of being displaced due to previous attacks and ongoing conflict.

The assault occurred around 8:30 pm on Friday night, catching villagers completely off guard. Armed fighters stormed the community, firing indiscriminate gunshots and setting houses ablaze.
