The trade fight between China and the United States has taken a serious turn. Both countries are increasing taxes on each other’s goods, and tensions are rising.
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning recently said that China is not afraid of these actions and will not back down. To show this strong message, she shared a video clip of former Chinese leader Mao Zedong from 1953, during the Korean War. In the post on X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, “We are Chinese. We are not afraid of provocations. We don’t back down.”

In the old video, Mao Zedong said that China did not decide how long the Korean War would last. It depended on the President of the United States at the time—first President Truman, then President Eisenhower. “No matter how long the war takes, we will not give in. We will fight until we win,” he said.
This message came shortly after US President Donald Trump announced a sudden increase in tariffs (extra taxes on imports) on Chinese goods. The new tax is now 125%. This move was in response to China’s decision to raise its tariffs on US products from 34% to 84%, starting April 10.
According to a report, China raised its tariffs after the US had already increased its own taxes on Chinese imports to 104%.
Just a few days earlier, on Sunday, President Trump had warned that he might increase tariffs by another 50% if China continued to raise taxes on US goods. China had earlier called the US actions unfair and said the new tariffs were “groundless” and a form of “bullying.” This statement came from China’s Ministry of Commerce.
The situation shows no signs of calming down, as both countries continue to raise tariffs and issue strong statements against each other.
