Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is facing a lot of criticism because no PCB official was present at the final of the 2025 Champions Trophy. The final match was played at Dubai International Stadium, where India won the trophy by defeating New Zealand by four wickets.

During the prize-giving ceremony, important cricket officials were on stage, including ICC chairman Jay Shah, BCCI president Roger Binny, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, and New Zealand Cricket (NZC) director Roger Twose. But no one from PCB was there to represent Pakistan, even though Pakistan was the official host of the tournament.
PCB’s chief operating officer Sumair Ahmed, who was also the tournament director, was in Dubai. But he was not invited to stand on the stage. Many people were surprised and questioned why PCB had no one present at such an important moment.
Reports say that PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi did not go to Dubai because he was busy with his duty as Pakistan’s interior minister. He had told ICC that he could not come because he had to attend a parliament session where the country’s president was giving a speech.
Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar spoke about this issue on social media. He said he was very surprised to see that no one from PCB was there at the prize-giving ceremony.
"India won the ICC Champions Trophy today, but I noticed something very strange. Pakistan was the host of this tournament, but there was no PCB official on stage during the trophy presentation. Why was there no one from PCB to hand over the trophy? This is a world event, and sadly, no PCB member was present. It is very disappointing," Akhtar said in a video.
Some former Pakistan players think that India may get the wrong message from this. They believe it may look like PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi did not attend the ceremony because India was in the final and won the trophy.
The 2025 Champions Trophy was very special for Pakistan because it was the first ICC tournament hosted by Pakistan in 29 years. But Pakistan’s team did not perform well and was knocked out in the group stage after losing matches to New Zealand and India.
Reports say that ICC is responsible for deciding who stands on the stage during the prize-giving ceremony. Even though PCB official Sumair Ahmed was in Dubai, he was not invited to join the stage. Many cricket fans and experts in Pakistan are unhappy about this and feel that it was unfair.
