When nine-year-old Adele Shestovskaya was asked about the one place in the world she wanted to visit, her answer was simple—Dubai. Adele, a young girl from Finland, has been battling kidney cancer. She had always admired Dubai’s stunning skyline and beautiful beaches through pictures and videos online, but her biggest dream was to see it all in person.
Her wish did not go unnoticed. Dubai’s Crown Prince, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, made sure her dream came true. Under his guidance, Dubai’s officials planned a special trip for Adele and her family, making sure every detail was perfect. The visit was carefully arranged by His Excellency Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai. His team worked hard to ensure Adele had an unforgettable experience.

From the moment Adele and her family landed at Dubai International Airport, they were given a warm welcome. They were greeted by officers from the GDRFA and Dubai’s travel mascots, ‘Salem’ and ‘Salama.’ These mascots were designed to make the immigration process fun and engaging for children. At the passport control counter, Adele and her family even got to stamp their passports—a small but exciting moment for the young girl.
The family stayed at Jumeirah Beach Residence, where they could enjoy Dubai’s stunning coastline. But the real adventure was beginning. Dubai’s officials had planned an exciting tour filled with unique experiences for Adele. She got to visit a nature reserve, where she played with animals and enjoyed the outdoors. She explored the Museum of the Future, one of Dubai’s most famous attractions, and was amazed by its futuristic exhibits. At Atlantis, The Palm, she walked through the glass tunnels of The Lost Chambers Aquarium, surrounded by thousands of colorful fish and marine creatures.
Beyond these fun activities, officials also made sure Adele’s health and comfort were a top priority. In partnership with Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital, medical arrangements were made to ensure she received any care she needed during her stay.
Lieutenant General Mohammed Al Marri expressed how honored his team was to be part of this initiative. He said, "We are proud to carry out the vision of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed by making this trip special for Adele and her family. Dubai is committed to supporting children battling illnesses and ensuring that every visitor has a memorable experience."
On the last evening of their visit, Al Marri and his team gathered to say goodbye to Adele and her family. Many organizations have come together to make this trip possible, including Dubai Airports, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, the Museum of the Future, Al Jalila Children's Specialty Hospital, and Sky VIP Limousine. Al-Marri thanked everyone involved for their efforts in making Adele’s visit extraordinary.
Adele’s father, Vitaly Shestovsky, was deeply moved by the kindness and generosity they received in Dubai. He shared, "We have never experienced such warmth and care before. The attention from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed and Lieutenant General Mohammed Al Marri has had a huge positive impact on Adele and our family."
He added, "Our time in Dubai has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We had an amazing week here, and even now, my children keep saying, ‘We don’t want to leave Dubai.’ But we must return to Finland so Adele can continue her treatment. However, we will definitely come back to this beautiful and welcoming city."
As the family prepared to leave, they took with them more than just memories—they carried the love and kindness of a city that opened its heart to make a little girl’s dream come true.
