The Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona is the world's largest event for wireless technology. Every year, tech companies from all over the world gather here to show off their newest gadgets and inventions.
This year, the event is packed with exciting innovations designed to amaze visitors. Among the biggest attractions are an incredibly lifelike humanoid robot, smartphones that change color with temperature, smart contact lenses, and many other futuristic devices.

3D Sound in Phone Calls
Nokia and Vodafone have introduced a new audio technology called "3D spatial sound." This feature will make phone calls feel more realistic by making voices sound as if they are coming from different directions, just like in a real conversation.
Currently, phone calls use only one audio channel, meaning voices sound flat. But with this new system, callers will hear voices as if they are in the same room. The technology, called "Immersive Video and Audio Services" (Ivas), requires phones to have two microphones and a strong 5G connection. This means it might take a few years before it becomes widely available.
Humanoid Robot "Amira"
A robot named Amira has been one of the major highlights of MWC 2025. Designed by Engineered Arts and showcased by the Emirati telecom company Etisalat, Amira has a strikingly human-like appearance. She wears a black dress, and a red jacket, and has long brown hair. Her facial expressions are very realistic, but her movements are still slow and robotic.
Amira can be connected to any advanced AI system, allowing her to have conversations with people. While she still moves in a mechanical way, her ability to mimic human features has amazed visitors.
Driving a Car from 3,000 km Away
At this year’s MWC, visitors got a chance to drive a car located 3,000 kilometers away in Finland. This was made possible by the Estonian company Elmo, which partnered with Nokia.
The setup at MWC included just a steering wheel and some screens. The real car, in Finland, was fitted with cameras and a remote controller. This technology could be useful for managing cars in busy cities or even for emergencies.
Color-Changing Smartphone
Chinese company Realme has introduced a unique phone that changes color based on temperature. The body of the Realme 14 Pro looks like a seashell and is made with special heat-sensitive pigments. When the temperature drops below 16°C (61°F), the phone turns blue. When it warms up, it changes back to white.
Although the feature is purely decorative, Realme admits that the effect will fade over time due to daily use. Even so, it has captured a lot of attention at the event.
Smart Contact Lenses
Dubai-based startup Xpanceo is working on smart contact lenses that could change the way people use technology. These futuristic lenses will have an "extended reality" display, health-tracking features, and the ability to receive power wirelessly.
At MWC, the company demonstrated different parts of the technology, but they have not yet combined them into a single lens. Co-founder Roman Axelrod hopes to have a working prototype ready by the end of 2026.
Right now, the lenses still require large components, such as a metal coil for power. The company plans to shrink these parts using advanced materials that are only one atom thick. If successful, these lenses could replace screens and revolutionize wearable technology.
Solar-Powered Laptop
Lenovo has unveiled the Yoga Solar, a laptop with built-in solar panels. The lid of the laptop has 84 small solar cells that can collect energy even in low light.
Lenovo says that just 20 minutes of direct sunlight can provide enough power for one hour of video playback. The laptop also has a smart power management system that controls when the solar panels should be used.
AI Tool to Detect Cataracts
A new tool called "Cat Eye" has been introduced to help people detect cataracts early. Developed by Spanish mobile company Telefonica and startup Edgendria Innovacion, this tool allows users to check their eyes for cataracts by simply taking a photo.
The AI-powered system analyzes the image and determines whether the person needs surgery. This could help doctors focus on more serious cases while allowing people to check their eye health easily from home.
The Future of Tech at MWC 2025
MWC 2025 has brought together some of the most exciting innovations in wireless technology. From ultra-lifelike robots to color-changing phones and AI-powered health tools, the event has given a glimpse into the future. While some of these gadgets are still in development, they show how technology is rapidly evolving to make life more advanced and convenient.
