Brahim's Strike Gives Real Madrid First-Leg Lead Over Atletico

In a hard-fought Madrid derby, Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 match. Both teams played carefully, possibly saving energy for the return game next week at Atletico’s home stadium.

Real Madrid started strong, taking the lead just 4 minutes into the game. Rodrygo scored after a great pass from Federico Valverde. Rodrygo controlled the ball, passed two Atletico defenders, and curled the ball into the far corner with his left foot. The crowd at the Bernabeu was excited as Real took an early lead.

Atletico Madrid didn’t give up and started to play better as the game went on. In the 32nd minute, Julian Alvarez scored a fantastic goal to make it 1-1. He beat Real’s Eduardo Camavinga and then shot the ball past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois into the far post. It was a great strike, and Atletico were back in the game.

In the second half, Real Madrid took the lead again. In the 55th minute, Brahim Diaz scored a brilliant goal. He found a small gap in Atletico’s defense and took his chance. Surrounded by three Atletico players, he used his quick feet to get past them and slotted the ball into the corner of the net, leaving Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak with no chance.

Atletico had some chances but couldn’t finish. Rodrigo de Paul missed a big chance to give Atletico the lead in the 53rd minute. That miss proved costly as Real Madrid regained the lead two minutes later.

Atletico made some changes in the second half, switching to a more defensive setup. Coach Diego Simeone brought on defender Robin Le Normand, taking off forward Antoine Griezmann, and added another defender to keep the scoreline close.

The game ended with Real Madrid holding a 2-1 lead going into the second leg. The win gives them an advantage, but Atletico will have another chance at home to fight back.

In another Champions League match on the same night, Arsenal won 7-1 against PSV Eindhoven, putting them in a very strong position to move on to the next round. If both Real Madrid and Arsenal win, they might meet in a very exciting match in the quarter-finals.
