A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday in Vietnam's Yen Bai province, where a bus carrying 19 passengers overturned on a treacherous mountain road, leading to the deaths of seven individuals. The charity organization's 29-seat bus lost control while descending, flipped, and was ultimately crushed, as reported by officials.
This heart-wrenching crash took place on a narrow, steep road notorious for its hazardous driving conditions. Rescue teams swiftly arrived at the site after the emergency call early Saturday morning. By 10:30 a.m. local time, they had managed to extricate 10 survivors from the wreckage, but multiple passengers remained trapped within the bus, necessitating heavy machinery to assist in their rescue.
Hoang Anh Tuan, the chairman of Phinh Ho commune, indicated that the preliminary investigation points to brake failure as the probable cause for the accident. “It appears that the driver lost control because the brakes failed while navigating the steep descent,” Tuan noted.
Emergency responders, including local police, military personnel, medical staff, and volunteers, worked diligently throughout the morning to assist the victims and clear the wreckage. Those who survived were quickly treated, with some reported to be in critical condition.
An official investigation has been initiated to determine the precise cause of this tragic event. Efforts to obtain additional comments from local authorities remain ongoing.
The incident has left the local community in shock and has sparked broader discussions on road safety, especially concerning the mountainous routes frequently traveled by passenger vehicles in the area.
