Ranveer Singh’s action-packed spy thriller Dhurandhar is proving to be a box office sensation, far exceeding expectations more than a month after its debut. Recent statistics released by the filmmakers on Instagram reveal that the film took in ₹3.6 crore on its 36th day, bringing its total to an impressive ₹844.45 crore in India.
The newly unveiled poster showcases a breakdown of the film's financial successes, highlighting that it amassed ₹784.5 crore in its first five weeks. Remarkably, ₹56.35 crore was secured in its fifth week alone, emphasizing the film's sturdy box office presence. The production team remarked in their post, “The March of Wrath continues to dominate the box office. Secure your tickets. #Dhurandhar Ruling Cinemas Worldwide.”
Released on December 5, Dhurandhar offers an engaging espionage narrative inspired by significant geopolitical events, including the 1999 IC-814 hijacking, the 2001 Indian Parliament attack, the 2008 Mumbai terrorist acts, and aspects of Operation Lyari.
The film features a talented ensemble, with Ranveer Singh portraying intelligence agent Hamza Ali Mazari, alongside actors like Akshaye Khanna as Rehman Dakait, Sanjay Dutt as SP Chaudhary Aslam, R. Madhavan as Ajay Sanyal, Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal, Sara Arjun as Yalina Jamali, and Rakesh Bedi as Jameel Jamali.
Renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently shared his thoughts on Dhurandhar, commending the film's themes and intentions. He noted that a spy or soldier must embody a sense of anger and strife towards the enemy for authenticity. However, he also identified a couple of moments he found troubling—specifically a line delivered by R. Madhavan’s character and the film’s concluding statement from Ranveer Singh, “Ye naya India hai.”
