Joe Biden Ends Reelection Campaign, Endorses Kamala Harris; Reactions from Trump, Obama, and Global Leaders
On Sunday, US President Joe Biden officially ended his reelection campaign, a move that followed increasing concerns from fellow Democrats about his mental fitness and his ability to challenge Donald Trump. Trump’s Reaction: Donald Trump responded to Biden’s withdrawal by stating, “Harris will be easier to beat than Joe Biden would have been,” during an interview with CNN. This remark highlights Trump’s belief that the shift in the Democratic ticket could influence his own campaign strategy.
Republican Response: The Republican party, led by figures such as House Speaker Mike Johnson, has been vocal about Biden’s fitness for office. Johnson asserted, “If Joe Biden is not fit to run for president, he is not fit to serve as president. He must resign immediately. November 5 cannot arrive soon enough.”
Democratic Process: Amid concerns that Kamala Harris might be an automatic choice for the Democratic nomination, Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison emphasized that there will be no automatic coronation. “The party will undertake a transparent and orderly process to move forward,” Harrison stated. He assured that the delegates are prepared to swiftly present a candidate to the American people.
Barack Obama’s Support: Former President Barack Obama lauded Biden’s decision as a testament to his “love of country.” Obama commended Biden for his efforts to restore America’s international standing and mobilize support against Russian aggression in Ukraine. “Joe Biden’s decision reflects his deep commitment to our nation,” Obama added.
Elon Musk’s Endorsement: Elon Musk has publicly endorsed Republicans and Donald Trump following Biden’s exit from the race. Musk shared his views in an X post, stating, “My smartest friends, including lifelong Dems in the San Francisco Bay Area, are excited about Trump/Vance.” He expressed his belief in an America that maximizes individual freedom and merit, noting that this value now aligns more with the Republican Party.
