Apple to Make Mac Mini in US at Foxconn Houston

Apple will begin producing some of its Mac Mini desktop computers in the United States later this year. The production will take place at a Foxconn facility in north Houston, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

This move is part of Apple’s broader investment plan in the US. In August last year, the company announced it would invest $600 billion in the United States over the next four years. The new Mac Mini production effort adds to that commitment.

However, Apple will continue to manufacture Mac Mini units in Asia as well. Chief Operating Officer Sabih Khan told that the Houston facility will focus on meeting local demand as the US assembly line gradually increases production.

It is not yet clear whether Apple will reduce its production capacity in Asia. The company did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The decision comes amid political pressure over overseas manufacturing. In May, US President Donald Trump threatened Apple with a 25% tariff on products made outside the United States. This marked a shift from earlier policies when smartphones, computers, and other electronics were exempted from tariffs on Chinese imports.

According to the report, Apple is also expanding its Houston facility. The company plans to set up a new training center focused on advanced manufacturing skills.

Sabih Khan said Apple is more confident about long-term demand for the Mac Mini, which is currently more popular than the Mac Pro.

Apple still manufactures most of its products — including iPhones and iPads — in Asia, mainly in China. In recent years, the company has also moved some production to Vietnam, Thailand, and India.

This latest move signals Apple’s continued efforts to strengthen its US manufacturing presence while maintaining its large production base in Asia.
