Dead Fish Found in Al Muzoon Canal After Sudden Algal Bloom

Dead fish were discovered floating across sections of Al Muzoon Canal on Monday evening, prompting an immediate response from the Environment Agency in Abu Dhabi. The agency revealed that an algal bloom had developed in the waterway, cutting down dissolved oxygen levels and creating conditions that proved fatal for marine life.

According to the initial assessment shared through the agency’s social media update, the bloom appears to have formed due to elevated nutrient levels combined with reduced water circulation in the canal. Such conditions allow algae to multiply rapidly, sometimes turning toxic and disrupting the natural balance of the water.

Teams were deployed overnight to start clearing the dead fish from the area and move forward with disposal procedures. Authorities also collected water and fish samples to analyse the scale and behaviour of the bloom. Continuous monitoring is underway to track any further changes in the canal’s environmental condition.
