Aigai Palace reopens, Alexander's crowning site, 2400 years later

Greece has unveiled the meticulously restored ancient Palace of Aigai, a historic site imbued with the echoes of classical Greece, where Alexander the Great ascended to the throne around 2,400 years ago. The reopening marks the end of an extensive restoration process that had kept the site closed to visitors for an extended period.

The Palace of Aigai, also known as the Royal Metropolis of the Macedonians, holds immense cultural and historical significance. Spanning an expansive area of approximately 15,000 square meters, it stands as a testament to the grandeur of classical Greek architecture. The responsibility of custodians, Mitsotakis stressed, is to protect, promote, and continually unveil the historical horizons revealed by each facet of these precious sites.
