The UAE has officially opened the 3rd International Conference on Advancing Sustainable Futures (ICASF 2025) at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental in Abu Dhabi. The event, organised by Abu Dhabi University in collaboration with the International Observatory for University Rankings and Academic Excellence, brings together more than 75 international experts to explore how nature, technology and society can move forward in harmony.

Held under the theme “Shaping the Future: Integrating Nature, Technology, and Society,” the conference sets the stage for in-depth discussions on emerging technologies—from artificial intelligence to renewable energy—and how they can support sustainable development and improve quality of life.

The opening highlighted the UAE’s long-standing commitment to sustainability, tracing the nation’s vision back to 1971 and reaffirming its continued focus on human development, environmental protection and innovation. Speakers noted that the UAE has positioned itself as a global leader in conservation efforts, scientific research and adoption of advanced technologies.

Throughout the conference, four major themes are being explored.
The first focuses on strengthening university quality and academic excellence, with sessions examining global rankings and the evolving role of higher education.
The second highlights environmental sustainability, emphasising resource management, smart infrastructure, renewable energy and protection of cultural heritage as key foundations for future growth.
The third area looks at how science and technology are shaping modern life, especially as the UAE expands its global presence in artificial intelligence and digital innovation.
The fourth theme dives into the social and ethical impact of rapid technological development, addressing how societies can adopt innovation safely, fairly and inclusively.

The opening ceremony was attended by senior officials, university leaders and international representatives, underscoring the scale and relevance of the global gathering. Abu Dhabi University noted that hosting ICASF 2025 aligns with the UAE’s ongoing initiatives to embed sustainability across national policies and institutions. The university also highlighted its expanding research capabilities and global partnerships in areas related to future sustainability.

ICASF 2025 will continue with a series of panel discussions, presentations and collaborative sessions designed to support practical progress toward sustainable, resilient and future-ready societies.
