Abu Dhabi Customs has made impressive progress in speeding up the customs clearance process. In 2024, 72% of all customs transactions were completed through pre-arrival clearance, marking a significant jump from 47% in 2023. This represents a 53% increase in efficiency across all customs centers in the emirate.
Outbound shipments played a major role in this achievement, with 85% of total exit declarations being processed before shipments even reached customs. This is a huge improvement compared to 67% in 2023. Similarly, for inbound shipments, 60% of total entry declarations were completed in advance, compared to just 31% in the previous year.

This remarkable improvement is due to Abu Dhabi Customs’ continuous efforts to develop and upgrade its processes. The department has focused on enhancing digital customs systems, improving integrated technology, and investing in advanced tools like artificial intelligence. Additionally, special facilities for freight clearance and shipping companies, better electronic connections with government agencies, and new agreements with service providers have helped speed up procedures. These efforts have not only reduced clearance times but also made the process easier and more efficient for both employees and customers.
Pre-arrival customs clearance allows importers, exporters, and their representatives to complete customs procedures before their shipments arrive. This includes submitting customs declarations, paying duties, and meeting any regulatory requirements in advance. The process is available through smart platforms like the Abu Dhabi Government Services Platform “TAMM” and the Advanced Trade and Logistics Platform “ATLP.” By completing the necessary steps ahead of time, businesses can move goods faster, reduce delays, and improve overall trade efficiency in Abu Dhabi.
