80 drones and six missiles fired from Iran and Yemen, according to US officials

In Cairo, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) revealed that over the weekend, U.S. forces, assisted by U.S. European Command destroyers, thwarted a significant threat aimed at Israel originating from Iran and Yemen. The operation saw the destruction of more than 80 one-way attack drones and at least six ballistic missiles, a pivotal move in safeguarding Israel's security. CENTCOM underscored that these drones and missiles were intended for deployment against Israel, with Iran and Yemen being identified as the sources.

According to CENTCOM's report shared on X, the intercepted arsenal included a ballistic missile situated on its launcher vehicle, along with seven unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) neutralized on the ground before they could be launched. These preemptive actions took place within areas controlled by Iran-backed Houthi militants in Yemen, marking a proactive measure to disrupt hostile activities before they could manifest.

The operation coincided with a retaliatory strike initiated by Iran late Saturday, targeting Israeli territory with a combination of drones and missiles. This retaliation followed a suspected Israeli strike on Iran's embassy compound in Syria on April 1, resulting in the fatalities of prominent Revolutionary Guards commanders. The retaliatory attack, comprising over 300 missiles and drones predominantly launched from Iranian territory, aimed to inflict damage on Israeli soil. However, the effectiveness of Israel's Iron Dome defense system, coupled with assistance from strategic allies such as the United States, Britain, France, and Jordan, minimized the impact of the assault, with most projectiles being intercepted before causing substantial harm.

In response to these developments, the U.S. military emphasized its unwavering commitment to supporting Israel's defense against such perilous provocations orchestrated by Iran. CENTCOM reiterated its dedication to collaborating with regional partners to bolster security across the region, affirming a resolute stance against destabilizing actions that threaten peace and stability in the Middle East.
