303 Children Taken in Niger School Attack, 50 Manage to Flee

In a distressing incident on November 21, armed assailants invaded St. Mary’s Catholic Boarding School in Papiri, Niger state, abducting 303 children along with 12 staff members.

In the aftermath, 50 students were able to escape during the tumultuous hours that followed the attack. However, the fate of the other children, including some as young as six, remains uncertain, with no confirmed updates on their situation.

Daniel Atori, the spokesperson for the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger state, stated that authorities have not received official word regarding the situation and are actively praying for the victims’ safe return.

This incident raises alarm regarding Nigeria's escalating security issues, echoing the concerns stemming from the notorious Chibok abductions that occurred over ten years ago. Security analysts stress that such attacks underscore ongoing vulnerabilities in the protection of educational institutions and children within the country.
