Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, is celebrating a major milestone — 30 successful years of connecting Dubai and Nairobi. Since its inaugural flight in October 1995, the airline has carried more than 6.6 million passengers across 34,250 flights, strengthening ties between the UAE and Kenya.
Today, Emirates operates double daily Boeing 777 flights to Nairobi, linking one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities with over 145 global destinations. The route has become vital for both tourism and trade, with inbound travellers mainly from Asia, Australasia, and the US, while Kenyan passengers frequently journey to cities such as Shanghai, Sydney, and New York.
In 2023, Emirates deepened its local reach through an interline partnership with Kenya Airways, making travel across East Africa easier than ever. Over the past two years, 31,000 passengers have benefited from this collaboration, enjoying seamless one-ticket itineraries to destinations like Rwanda, Malawi, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Burundi.
Nairobi also holds a special place in Emirates’ global presence. In 2024, the city became home to Africa’s first Emirates World travel store, introducing customers to an immersive and modern travel experience in the heart of Riverside Drive.
The airline continues to set benchmarks in passenger comfort, being the only carrier in Kenya offering private First Class suites. Its passengers enjoy generous baggage allowances, regionally inspired menus, and access to 6,500 entertainment channels, including Kenyan films and music.
Emirates’ impact goes beyond the skies. Its cargo division, Emirates SkyCargo, supports Kenya’s position as a global flower hub. In 2024 alone, it transported over 16,000 tonnes of fresh-cut flowers, ensuring delivery from farm to florist within 24 hours.
The airline also contributes to local employment and welfare. With over 1,100 Kenyan nationals working across the Emirates Group — including 254 cabin crew members and 41 pilots — the connection between the two nations continues to grow stronger. Moreover, through the Emirates Airline Foundation, the company supports several humanitarian causes in Kenya, focusing on child education and welfare initiatives.
As Emirates completes three decades in Kenya, its legacy stands tall — not just as a carrier but as a long-standing partner in the nation’s journey of progress, prosperity, and connectivity.
