The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity has announced the winners for 2025. This award is given to people and groups who work to make the world better and bring peace among different communities. The winners this year are Mia Amor Mottley, the Prime Minister of Barbados, who is known for her work on climate change, World Central Kitchen (WCK), a food relief group started by Chef José Andrés, and Heman Bekele, a 15-year-old health innovator. He is the youngest person to win this award. The winners will be honored on February 4, 2025, at the Founder’s Memorial. The event will be shown live on social media for people around the world to watch.

This award is named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founder of the UAE. He believed in helping all people, no matter where they come from. Each year, a special group of judges selects winners who have done important work for society.

Mia Amor Mottley was chosen for her strong efforts in fighting climate change. In 2022, she started the Bridgetown Initiative, which asks rich countries to change financial rules to help poorer nations deal with climate problems. She also promised to make Barbados fully use clean energy like solar and wind power by 2030. She started a new idea called debt-for-climate swaps, where countries can use money meant for paying debts to instead protect the environment and prepare for climate change.

World Central Kitchen (WCK) was founded by Chef José Andrés in 2010. This group helps feed people who suffer from disasters like earthquakes, floods, and war. Since it started, WCK has given more than 300 million meals in over 30 countries. Since October 2023, they have provided more than 70 million meals to people in Gaza. They work with local chefs, suppliers, and volunteers to provide fresh and healthy meals. WCK also helps local businesses by buying food from them while feeding people in need. The group is known for being the first to reach disaster areas quickly and provide food to those who need it most. They also work with countries like the UAE to help more people.

Heman Bekele, a 15-year-old Ethiopian-American, is being honored for his efforts to make healthcare easy and affordable. When he was 14, he created a special soap that helps stop early-stage skin cancer. This idea made him TIME’s 2024 Kid of the Year, and he won many science awards. Now, he is working with scientists at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health to improve his soap and make it available to more people. His goal is to bring cheap and effective healthcare solutions to those who do not have easy access.

Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, Secretary-General of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, said that this year’s winners show that anyone, at any age or place, can help change the world. He hopes that by honoring them, more people will feel inspired to take action and do good.

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a member of the judging panel and Director-General of the World Trade Organization, also praised the winners. She said they have worked hard to help people and bring positive change. She believes their work shows that when people come together and help one another, they can make the world a better place.

The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity continues to recognize and celebrate people who work to make the world kinder, safer, and more united. The 2025 award ceremony will be a chance to appreciate their efforts and encourage others to do good work for the future.
