The UN Human Rights Office in Palestine has made a statement saying that Israel is legally required to provide essential life needs to Palestinians living under its control. These basic needs include food, clean water, shelter, and healthcare. The UN emphasized that denying these necessities could be seen as collective punishment, which is against the law. Additionally, the use of hunger or starvation as a weapon in war is considered a war crime.

The statement also reported that, since a ceasefire was agreed on January 19, the Israeli military has killed 58 Palestinians, including ten children and three women. Many of these deaths occurred near places where Israel has set up "no-go" zones, such as the Netzarim and Philadelphi corridors, as well as areas like eastern Rafah, Khan Younis, and Beit Hanun. Most of the people killed were reportedly trying to check on their homes.
The UN Human Rights Office also pointed out that targeting innocent Palestinians who are not involved in fighting is a war crime, no matter the restrictions Israel imposes on their movement.
