A Strong Commitment to Humanitarian Work
During the ceremony, Sheikh Mohammed praised the work of MBRGI and its team. He highlighted that the UAE remains dedicated to supporting humanitarian causes across the globe.
He said, “Today, I chaired the MBRGI Board of Trustees meeting, where we reviewed the results of the past year. In 2024, MBRGI spent AED2.2 billion on projects in aid, healthcare, education, and community development. These efforts helped 149 million people in 118 countries. I also met with 975 dedicated employees who carry out this humanitarian work, supported by over 170,000 volunteers.
“As we mark Humanitarian Work Day, in honour of the UAE’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed, we reaffirm our commitment to continue these efforts. The UAE’s kindness and generosity will always extend to people everywhere. We are thankful that our country follows this noble path, and we pray that God continues to bless and protect our nation so we can keep doing good.”
Sheikh Mohammed added, “We are closing a year filled with hope and positive change, and we look forward to another year of making an even greater impact. Whether it is saving lives, providing education, empowering women, fostering innovation, or fighting poverty, these actions reflect our values and principles. This is the legacy we will leave behind.”
He concluded by saying, “We will continue to serve humanity tirelessly. Our flame of hope will always remain lit.”
MBRGI’s Expanding Role
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum highlighted how MBRGI has grown since it was founded in 2015. He explained that the organisation has gone beyond traditional charity work. It now focuses on rebuilding and empowering communities, finding sustainable solutions to global challenges, and tackling the root causes of issues like poverty and disease.
Sheikh Hamdan said, “In 2024, MBRGI spent AED2.2 billion on a variety of high-impact projects. These initiatives made a real difference and reached millions of people. One of the most meaningful milestones this year was the launch of the ‘Mother's Endowment Campaign’ by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid. This campaign created a one-billion-dirham fund to support education for millions of children around the world, giving them the skills they need for a better future.”
He also mentioned the launch of the ‘1B Tower’, an AED800 million endowment project supporting the 1 Billion Meals Endowment campaign. This initiative aims to fight global hunger by providing sustainable food assistance to millions.
In addition, Sheikh Hamdan highlighted the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Hamdan bin Rashid Cancer Hospital, Dubai’s first comprehensive cancer hospital. The facility, which will offer free cancer treatment, is a major step forward in boosting Dubai’s healthcare system.
A Model for Sustainable Philanthropy
His Excellency Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Secretary-General of MBRGI, said that Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s vision has turned MBRGI into a global model of sustainable philanthropy.
“In 2024, MBRGI’s projects reached 149 million people in 118 countries, with an overall spending of AED2.2 billion—an increase of AED400 million compared to 2023. This shows the foundation’s expanding impact,” Al Gergawi said.
He explained that MBRGI channels its resources into long-term, high-quality projects that create lasting change. These initiatives focus on education, healthcare, community empowerment, and innovation, while building international partnerships to strengthen humanitarian efforts.
Honouring Key Contributors
During the event, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid presented the ‘Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Order for Philanthropy’ to Mirwais Azizi, Founder and Chairman of Azizi Developments, for contributing AED3 billion to the Fathers’ Endowment campaign. This was the largest private sector donation in the history of the UAE.
Several other major contributors were also honoured with the ‘Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Medal for Philanthropy’, recognising their generous support of the Fathers’ Endowment campaign.
Expanding Humanitarian Efforts
In 2024, MBRGI engaged 171,892 volunteers, an increase from 160,547 in 2023. These volunteers worked alongside 975 employees, supporting humanitarian, health, educational, and community projects.
MBRGI also awarded AED38.5 million in prizes and incentives to encourage and celebrate achievements in humanitarian and development work.
