A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Sındırgı district in Balıkesir province, western Türkiye, early this morning, according to the country’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 11.04 kilometres below the surface. Officials confirmed that no human or material losses have been reported so far, while field survey teams are continuing assessments in the affected areas.
Türkiye’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said that emergency teams were immediately dispatched after the quake to check for possible casualties and damage.
Sındırgı had previously experienced a 6.1-magnitude earthquake on 27 October last year, which also did not result in any casualties.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urging residents to stay alert for possible aftershocks.
