Lebanon War Crisis: Civilian Toll and Mass Displacement

The ongoing war in Lebanon is causing severe harm to civilians, with rising deaths, injuries, and large-scale displacement, the United Nations said on Tuesday.

UN Humanitarian Coordinator Imran Riza reported that the situation is getting worse very quickly. Hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes, many with nothing but the clothes they were wearing.

The UN human rights office has also raised serious concerns about Israeli airstrikes targeting residential areas. According to spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan, entire buildings in crowded urban areas have been destroyed. In many cases, multiple members of the same family, including women and children, were killed together.

The UN stated that such attacks may violate international humanitarian law.

Israel began its attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon on March 2. Since then, more than 800 people have been killed and over 800,000 people have been displaced.

Lebanese government data shows that nearly 20% of the country’s population is now displaced. The United Nations warns that this number is likely to increase as the conflict continues.
