Mexican cyclist Isaac Del Toro secured the overall victory at the Tirreno-Adriatico 2026 after safely completing the final stage to San Benedetto del Tronto with the support of his UAE Team Emirates–XRG teammates.
The 21-year-old rider faced a tense moment during the final stage when he was involved in a crash with around 90 kilometres remaining. However, Del Toro quickly remounted his bike and rejoined the peloton, eventually finishing safely to retain the leader’s jersey and confirm his overall win in the prestigious Italian stage race.
The traditional closing stage covered 142 kilometres from Civitanova Marche to San Benedetto del Tronto and ended in a bunch sprint. The stage victory was claimed by Italian sprinter Jonathan Milan of Lidl–Trek. A late crash in the final kilometres split the peloton but did not affect the overall standings.
Del Toro had already built his winning advantage earlier in the race during the challenging mountain stages across the Apennines. He regained the race lead on Stage 5 before delivering a decisive performance on Stage 6.
During the summit finish at Camerino, Del Toro responded to attacks from Giulio Pellizzari and Matteo Jorgenson before launching his own late attack to win the stage. The victory extended his lead in the general classification and placed him firmly in control heading into the final day.
After sealing the overall title, Del Toro described the win as an important moment in his career.
He said the victory was very special for both him and his team, noting that Tirreno-Adriatico is one of the most prestigious races on the cycling calendar. Del Toro also thanked his teammates for supporting him throughout the race, particularly in the climbs and windy conditions, and for helping him stay safe during the final stage after the crash.
The young Mexican rider will now take a short recovery break before preparing for his next major race, the famous Italian classic Milano–San Remo.
