Hamdan bin Mohammed Opens Largest IDEX Edition Ever in Abu Dhabi

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, officially opened the 17th edition of the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX 2025) in Abu Dhabi. This year’s event is the largest in the history of IDEX, with increased global participation from top defense companies, military officials, and decision-makers from across the world.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan highlighted how the UAE’s growing defense industry shows the country’s long-standing dedication to its development. Since its formation, the UAE has always worked to protect its borders and secure its success through strong armed forces. These forces have helped the nation to stay on course with its development goals and to face any challenges that come its way.

Sheikh Hamdan reaffirmed that under the leadership of President Mohamed bin Zayed and Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the UAE continues to play a vital role in promoting global peace. He emphasized the UAE’s firm belief that peace and stability are essential for progress, and the country remains committed to helping maintain these principles around the world.

The grand opening ceremony was attended by top military officials, including His Excellency Mohamed bin Mubarak Fadhel Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Defence Affairs, and Lieutenant General Issa Saif bin Ablan Al Mazrouei, Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces.

This year’s IDEX, which runs from February 17 to 21 at the ADNEC Centre in Abu Dhabi, brings together more than 1,565 companies from 65 countries. This represents a 16% increase in the number of exhibitors compared to last year. The total exhibition space has grown by 10% to 181,501 square meters. Notably, 731 companies are participating for the first time, marking an 82% rise in first-time exhibitors. Of these, 213 companies are based in the UAE, showing the significant growth of the nation’s defense industry.

This year, IDEX also saw the debut of seven new countries: Qatar, Ethiopia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, and Cyprus. In addition, the newly opened Hall 14 houses 341 exhibitors, further expanding the exhibition’s reach and diversity.

A major feature of IDEX 2025 is the first-ever global CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive) Hub. This platform brings together experts and decision-makers from around the world to discuss the latest challenges and technologies related to these types of threats. The CBRNE Hub features 38 companies from 13 different countries.

The exhibition showcases more than 3,300 advanced products related to land and air defense, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, robotics, and protection systems. Alongside the exhibits, the event features specialized conferences, panel discussions, and live demonstrations of cutting-edge defense technology, providing a comprehensive look at the future of global security.

As a key platform for the global defense industry, IDEX continues to drive innovation and foster international partnerships. It plays an essential role in enhancing the exchange of knowledge, showcasing the latest military technologies, and helping shape the future of global defense.
