Beijing: A magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook Tebo County in the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Gansu Province, northwest China, on Monday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Centre (CENC).
The tremor prompted the evacuation of over 20,000 residents to safer locations. Local authorities confirmed that no casualties have been reported in the affected areas.
In response to the quake, public security authorities dispatched 350 police officers to assist with search and rescue operations, while the Gansu provincial fire and rescue corps mobilized 340 personnel, 65 vehicles, and seven trained search dogs to help reach affected zones and provide immediate assistance.
Officials reported that the earthquake caused minor structural damage in some buildings, but rapid response measures helped prevent serious injuries. Relief teams have been stationed throughout the region to monitor aftershocks and provide aid where necessary.
The local government has urged residents to stay vigilant and follow safety instructions issued by emergency services, while continuing to survey and reinforce vulnerable structures.
This earthquake is part of a series of tremors in northwest China, highlighting the importance of preparedness and quick response in seismic regions. Authorities continue to assess the impact and ensure public safety in the days following the quake.
