  • Rashid Mohammed Abdullah, Head of Events Planning and Execution at the Dubai Sports Council.

  • Mona Al Falasi, Director of Esports and Strategy at the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism.

  • Professional esports players including Shaima Al Mansouri, Dr. Arshiya Farghath, and Lady Lillith.

In addition, several Dubai Police officers, journalists, and gaming fans were present to hear about the tournament details and its purpose.

Purpose of the Tournament

Major Abdullah Al Shehhi explained that hosting this tournament is part of Dubai Police’s broader vision to combine technology, community engagement, and public safety. Esports has grown rapidly worldwide, especially among the youth, and Dubai Police sees this as an opportunity not only to entertain but also to educate the community about safe gaming practices.

The tournament is not just about winning games—it is also about spreading awareness on important topics such as:

  • Maintaining a healthy balance between gaming and real life.

  • Staying alert when interacting with strangers online.

  • Understanding the risks of cybercrimes in online gaming environments.

Fighting Cybercrime Through Esports

One of the main aims of this event is to help prevent and combat cybercrimes linked to online games. Major Al Shehhi said that some players can fall victim to online fraud, blackmail, and other harmful activities. Through this tournament, Dubai Police hopes to:

  • Raise awareness about cyber fraud and online extortion.

  • Educate participants on privacy protection and the importance of not sharing personal data such as phone numbers, addresses, or images with strangers during gameplay.

  • Teach players how to identify suspicious activities while gaming online.

He also introduced the ‘Ecrime’ platform, where people can report cybercrime incidents. This platform is easy to access and helps the public stay informed about the latest risks and ways to protect themselves. The platform can be reached here: https://ecrimehub.gov.ae/ar.

Encouraging Healthy Gaming Habits

Major Al Shehhi highlighted that esports can be a great hobby when enjoyed in moderation. The tournament will also serve as a reminder for players to:

  • Maintain their physical and mental health by taking regular breaks.

  • Avoid spending excessive hours gaming without rest.

  • Stay active outside the digital world to keep a balanced lifestyle.

Dubai Police aims to create a safe and enjoyable gaming environment, where entertainment goes hand in hand with education and safety.

Support From the Dubai Sports Council

Rashid Mohammed Abdullah, representing the Dubai Sports Council, praised the initiative and confirmed their continued support. He said that the Council is committed to organizing sports events that empower and inspire young people. He acknowledged that esports is becoming an important part of youth culture, and it can be used as a powerful tool to promote cyber awareness and community safety.

Registration and Participation Details

The tournament is open to both male and female participants, aged between 10 and 35 years old. Registration is still ongoing, and interested players can sign up to compete against some of the best local and international gamers. With a large prize pool of AED 200,000, the competition is expected to be intense and exciting.

Why This Tournament Matters for the Community

While esports tournaments usually focus on entertainment and competition, the Dubai Police edition adds an educational dimension. This event is designed to:

  • Promote safe online gaming practices.

  • Teach players how to avoid cyber threats.

  • Encourage responsible gaming habits.

  • Bring together people from different cultures through healthy competition.

It is also part of Dubai Police’s ongoing mission to use innovative ways to connect with the public, especially the younger generation, by blending fun activities with learning opportunities.

Focus on Digital Safety and Financial Awareness

Another important aspect of the tournament will be lessons on electronic financial transactions. As more games involve in-game purchases and virtual currencies, players will be informed about:

  • How to make safe online payments.

  • The dangers of giving out credit card or banking information in unsafe environments.

  • Recognizing signs of fraudulent transactions.

This financial education is vital, as many young gamers may not be aware of the risks connected to online payments in gaming platforms.

Dubai’s Growing Role in Esports

Dubai has been making steady progress in establishing itself as a global esports hub. Events like the Dubai Police Esports Tournament bring together players from across the world, strengthening Dubai’s reputation as a safe, well-organized, and innovative host city.

The combination of high-quality competition, world-class facilities, and a strong emphasis on digital safety makes this tournament stand out from other gaming events.

The Fifth Dubai Police Esports Tournament promises to be much more than a competition. With over 1,500 players, a massive AED 200,000 prize pool, and a clear focus on cyber safety, it is an event that blends entertainment, education, and community engagement.

By hosting such tournaments, Dubai Police is showing that gaming can be a positive force when combined with responsibility and awareness. Participants will not only get a chance to showcase their gaming skills but will also leave with valuable knowledge on how to protect themselves in the digital world.

Registration is still open, and the event from 14th to 17th August at the Dubai Police Officers Club in Al Jaddaf is set to be one of the most exciting and meaningful esports competitions in the UAE this year.
