This means putting a cost on emissions to encourage industries to pollute less. The goal is to help Abu Dhabi switch to a low-carbon economy and reduce emissions from factories and energy plants that release a lot of harmful gases.

To prepare for COP28, EAD worked with government groups and private companies to make sure everyone was ready to take action against climate change.
The MRV program will carefully track greenhouse gas emissions from industries and energy plants in Abu Dhabi. This data will help make fair policies for carbon pricing and ensure everything is done in an open and honest way. The program follows global climate rules, such as those in the Paris Agreement.

Big factories that release a lot of carbon will have to measure their emissions every year and have the numbers checked by independent experts. The first reports are expected in 2026. EAD worked with businesses and government officials to make sure the program fits Abu Dhabi’s needs.

Dr. Shaikha Al Dhaheri, the Secretary General of EAD, said this program shows that Abu Dhabi is serious about fighting climate change. She said having clear and accurate data is important to make smart decisions. Abu Dhabi wants to cut its carbon emissions by 22% by 2027 and is working toward the UAE’s goal of Net Zero by 2050.

Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, from the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, said working together with different groups will help make the energy sector cleaner. He said the MRV system will give clear information to track emissions and make better plans.
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, the CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium, said the program will help his company follow new rules and stay honest about emissions. He said this is a big step in the journey to reach Net Zero emissions by 2050.

EAD will manage the program, helping Abu Dhabi move to cleaner technologies and meet its climate goals. This will also help industries in Abu Dhabi stay competitive while protecting the environment.
