The Houthis from Yemen have said they will start attacking Israeli ships again. These ships pass through important seas, like the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden. This comes after a break in attacks that started in January when a ceasefire was agreed for Gaza.

Before this, the Houthis had carried out over 100 attacks on ships since November 2023. They said they were doing this to support the Palestinians in the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. These attacks caused problems for world shipping, making companies change their routes to avoid the dangerous areas, which made the trips longer and more expensive. During this time, the Houthis sank two ships, took one, and killed at least four sailors.
On March 2, Israel stopped aid trucks from entering Gaza, which made the situation worse. The leader of the Houthis warned Israel that they would start their attacks again unless the aid blockade was lifted within four days. In their message on Wednesday, the Houthis said their ban would stay until the crossings to Gaza were opened, allowing food and medical help to come in.
The US government had already called the Houthis a “foreign terrorist organization” because of their attacks on ships. This label was given to punish the group for its actions in the Red Sea. The US made this decision after the attacks on American warships and commercial ships.
