Plane Carrying Philippines' Rodrigo Duterte Departs from UAE

The Gulfstream G550 plane that brought former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to Dubai has taken off after a stopover of several hours. The aircraft departed from Dubai's Al Maktoum International Airport and is now on its way to Rotterdam, according to flight tracking website Flightradar24.

Duterte was arrested earlier this week on an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant related to his controversial war on drugs. He was reportedly heading to The Hague, where the ICC is based. However, it is unclear whether he remained on the plane when it took off from Dubai.

The 79-year-old former leader’s lawyers have filed a petition requesting that he be sent back to Manila. He was arrested in the Philippine capital on Tuesday, but his legal team is fighting to have him returned home.

The Gulfstream G550 landed in Dubai late Tuesday night and remained at Al Maktoum International Airport for around eight hours before taking off just before midday local time (0800 GMT) on Wednesday. It is now bound for Rotterdam, but details about Duterte’s whereabouts remain uncertain.
