UAE Minister Stresses Stronger India-UAE Bilateral Ties

Kochi: The Invest Kerala Global Summit (IKGS) began on Friday with a thrust on enhancing business and investment relations. Addressing the gathering, UAE Minister of Economy Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri emphasized the historical and deep relations between India and the UAE. He pointed out that the economic cooperation between the two countries has increased manifold in recent years.

In his inaugural address, Al Marri observed India to be the UAE's second-largest trade partner. He further conveyed the UAE's deep interest in closely collaborating with Kerala in high-priority areas like food processing, tourism, technology, healthcare, and space.

The UAE Minister headed a 22-member delegation to the function and appreciated Kerala's skilled and talented workforce. Talking about the state's technical and educational prowess, he declared, "Kerala is actually boosting talent." He also said that the strategic location of the state, talent pool, and investor-friendly policies make it an attractive place for international collaborations.

Bahrain Looks to Partner with Kerala

Bahrain's Minister of Commerce and Industry, Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, was also present at the event. He, in his address, said that Bahrain seeks to deepen its ties with Kerala, especially in food security, tourism, hospitality, and the semiconductor industry.

Kerala's Increasing Investment Opportunities

Lulu Group Managing Director and Chairman M.A. Yusuff Ali also spoke at the event. He discussed Kerala's huge potential and the various opportunities for investors. He identified major sectors like IT, traditional industries, medical devices, food and agro-processing, artificial intelligence, defence equipment, robotics, tourism, and health tourism as areas of investment potential.

Ali further added that Kerala is positioning itself as an education hub by opening its doors to foreign universities, which will further increase opportunities for students and researchers.

Key Focus Areas of the Summit

The two-day Invest Kerala Global Summit, organized by the Government of Kerala with the support of several industry organizations, is designed to attract investments in various sectors. Some of the key focus areas are:

• Artificial Intelligence and Robotics
• Aerospace and Defence
• Logistics and Maritime Industry
• Pharmaceuticals and Packaging
• Medical Devices and Biotech
• Renewable Energy and Ayurveda
• Food Technology and High-Value-Added Rubber Products
• Tourism, Hospitality, and Waste Management

There will also be business talks, country-specific interactions, and presentations on Kerala's new Industrial Policy. The policy has listed more than 22 sectors as priority areas for proactive promotion and investment, according to an official release.

With business leaders, investors, and government officials from across the globe attending, the summit is likely to enhance Kerala's investment climate and create new opportunities for growth and development.
