Suqia UAE’s Board of Trustees convenes for its first meeting of 2025.

The UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE) recently held its first Board of Trustees meeting for 2025. The meeting was chaired by His Excellency (HE) Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suqia UAE.

Several key members attended the meeting, including:

HE Fahad Abdelrahman bin Sultan, Deputy Secretary General for Development and International Co-operation at Emirates Red Crescent and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Suqia.

HE Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Development Affairs and International Organisations.

  • Prof Ahmed Ali Al Raeesi, Acting Vice Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University.
  • Nasser Lootah, Executive Vice President of Generation at DEWA.
  • Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development & Excellence at DEWA.
  • Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA.
  • Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia UAE.
  • Humaid Abdulla Al Hammadi, Acting Secretary of the Board.

Ongoing Humanitarian Efforts
During the meeting, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer highlighted Suqia UAE’s continued efforts to help disadvantaged communities around the world. He emphasized that for the tenth consecutive year, Suqia is working to fulfil the UAE leadership’s vision of supporting those in need by providing clean and safe water.

He also spoke about how Suqia's work reflects the values of the UAE society, including compassion, generosity, and solidarity. With 2025 being the ‘Year of Community’ in the UAE, Suqia plans to strengthen its partnerships with local and international organisations to further promote these values.

Annual Ramadan Campaign
The meeting discussed the details of Suqia’s annual Ramadan campaign, which aims to support communities during the holy month. The campaign includes:

Distributing water bottles during iftar at mosques and Ramadan tents.
Providing food baskets to families in need, in partnership with 18 local charities.
Launching a new initiative that allows people to donate water bottles to select mosques across Dubai.
Water Projects in Tanzania
The Board reviewed the progress of Suqia’s clean water projects in Tanzania, carried out in partnership with Emirates Red Crescent. So far, Suqia has helped provide clean drinking water to over 500,000 people in Tanzania.

The organisation aims to increase the number of beneficiaries to one million by the third quarter of 2025. To achieve this, Suqia plans to complete 157 water projects across the country.

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award
The meeting also covered the latest updates on the fourth cycle of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award. The award, which is overseen by Suqia UAE, has a total prize of USD 1 million.

The award encourages the development of new and creative technologies for water purification and desalination using renewable energy sources such as:

  • Solar power
  • Wind energy
  • Biomass
  • Hydroelectric power
  • Osmosis
  • Geothermal energy

The Board of Trustees praised Suqia UAE’s ongoing efforts to help underprivileged communities, develop innovative solutions, and promote sustainable water projects around the world.
