In his opening remarks, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer emphasized the alignment of Suqia UAE’s efforts with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. He reiterated Suqia’s commitment to creating meaningful change by addressing global water scarcity and pollution through sustainable technology. "Our mission is to ensure that communities suffering from water scarcity have access to safe and clean water, thereby supporting a brighter future for all," he stated.
The board reviewed the progress of water projects launched in partnership with Emirates Red Crescent, aimed at providing clean drinking water to one million people in Tanzania. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to support regions struggling with severe water shortages and poor water quality.
The meeting also covered updates on the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award's fourth cycle. This prestigious award, with a total prize pool of USD 1 million, recognizes outstanding contributions from research institutions, individuals, and innovators working on advanced water technologies. The award seeks innovations in areas such as water production, distribution, storage, monitoring, purification, and desalination, particularly those utilizing renewable energy.
Another significant topic was the ‘Al Freej Fridge’ campaign, an initiative supported by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, Furjan Dubai, and Suqia UAE. This campaign provides cold water, juices, and ice cream to workers in Dubai to mitigate the effects of the summer heat. Suqia UAE plays a key role by supplying Mai Dubai water bottles for the campaign. Additionally, the board discussed the integration of donation options through DEWA’s online payment channels and smart app to facilitate contributions to Suqia UAE.
Overall, the meeting highlighted Suqia UAE's continued dedication to humanitarian efforts and its proactive approach in leveraging technological innovations to tackle global water challenges.
