Eight people got hurt in South Korea on Thursday when an Air Force jet mistakenly dropped bombs on houses and a church during military training. A fire official said that out of the eight injured, two people were seriously wounded. Emergency teams quickly reached the place and helped the injured.

The South Korean Air Force said a KF-16 fighter jet had mistakenly dropped eight 500-pound (225kg) bombs outside the practice area during a joint military drill. The Air Force apologized, saying, "We are sorry for the damage caused and hope the injured recover soon."

People living in the area have been worried about military training happening close to their homes for a long time. Many have protested, saying it is dangerous. Photos from the site showed a house badly damaged, with pieces of bricks and wood spread all around.

The accident happened during joint military drills between South Korea and the United States. These drills, called "Freedom Shield," are held every year to make sure their armies are ready for any danger, including threats from North Korea. The drills will officially begin on March 4 and continue until March 20.

Officials said this year’s training will also include lessons from recent wars around the world. They will also focus on North Korea’s increasing friendship with Russia. Ryan Donald, a spokesperson for the United States Forces Korea, said they study world events and update their training based on new threats.

The Freedom Shield drills will have around 70 different training activities involving soldiers from both South Korea and the United States. Officials are now investigating why the bombs fell in the wrong place and are taking steps to make sure such accidents do not happen again.
