The Global Terrorism Index is a report made by the Institute of Economics and Peace (IEP) that looks at 163 countries, which together cover almost the whole world. It checks things like how many terror attacks happened, how many people died, how many were hurt, and how many were taken as hostages.

The report says that the number of deaths caused by terrorism in Pakistan has gone up every year for the past five years. In 2024, the number of attacks in Pakistan grew by 45% compared to the year before. It was the first time the number of attacks went over 1,000 since the GTI started.
In 2023, Pakistan had 517 terror attacks. But in 2024, the number jumped to 1,099 attacks. The report says this is the biggest rise in attacks in the last 10 years.
The report also says that the banned terrorist group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is now the deadliest group in Pakistan. The TTP was responsible for almost half of all the deaths in Pakistan in 2024, killing 585 people. This was a huge increase, up by 91% from 2023, when the group killed 293 people. TTP carried out 482 attacks in Pakistan in 2024.
The rise in terrorism in Pakistan is linked to the Taliban taking control of Afghanistan. Terrorist groups operating from Afghanistan have started attacking Pakistan more, especially near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The regions of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are the hardest hit, with more than 96% of the attacks and deaths happening in these areas.
The report shows how dangerous the situation has become. Terrorism is growing fast, and more people are being hurt and killed, making Pakistan’s position in the Global Terrorism Index much worse. The rise in attacks from groups like the TTP continues to be a major problem for Pakistan’s security.
