N.R. Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys, shared his thoughts on artificial intelligence (AI) at a meeting in Mumbai. He said many companies in India are calling regular software "AI" just to look modern, but he believes this is not correct. He pointed out that many of these programs are just old software dressed up as something new.

Murthy explained that AI works in two main ways. One way is called Machine Learning, where a computer looks at a lot of data and makes guesses based on it. The other way is called Deep Learning, which works like the human brain. Deep Learning can make decisions by itself and can even learn new things without help. Murthy said that real AI should be able to think and act like humans, but most of the so-called AI in India is just basic software that has been given a fancy name.

Murthy also warned that many companies are using AI as a trick to make people think their programs are special, but in reality, they are just old systems. He urged people to be careful and understand the difference between true AI and just ordinary software with a new label.

At the same time, Infosys is working on real AI projects, focusing on new ways to solve problems using technology. Murthy’s message is clear: India can do amazing things with technology, but companies need to focus on real innovation and not just pretend to have AI.
