Mystery Surrounds Death of Dr. Rekha Raghuvanshi in Gwalior Hostel

Dr. Rekha Raghuvanshi, a doctor studying Neurology at Gajra Raja Medical College (GRMC) in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, was found dead in her hostel room on March 22 under mysterious circumstances. Her body was discovered hanging in her room at the Yamuna Girls Hostel.

The family was shocked when they received her body, and her last rites were performed. However, they are questioning the official story that she committed suicide. They have raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding her death and the evidence that does not add up. The family insists that Rekha would not have taken her own life and points out several inconsistencies in the reports.

According to the family, Rekha's body had already been taken down by someone before the police arrived at the scene. They also claim there is no photographic evidence to confirm that she was found hanging. The family has also pointed out that the grill from which she allegedly hanged herself was too low—just three feet high—making it difficult to believe that it could have been the cause of her death.

The Kampoo police station, where the case is being investigated, has said that a thorough investigation is underway. The post-mortem report is expected to shed more light on the cause of death. Police officers have also questioned how someone could have gotten access to the girls' hostel to take down the body, suggesting that only a male individual could have done it. The investigation will look into all possibilities, and no angle will be ignored.

Additionally, there are questions about why the person who found her hanging did not call the police first before taking the body down. Some insiders say that a fellow doctor had tried to call Rekha but her calls went unanswered. This has raised more doubts about the circumstances of her death.

Dr. R.K.S. Dhakad, the Dean of GRMC, said that when they found out Rekha wasn't answering calls and had been found hanging, he quickly went to the hostel with the warden and other staff members around midnight. They immediately called the police. The police arrived soon after, and Dr. Dhakad described Rekha as a dedicated and brilliant professional who had never mentioned any personal problems or complaints.

The college has a "Student Grievance Cell" to help students with stress or other concerns, and Rekha had participated in a program just the previous Saturday, where she appeared cheerful and in good spirits.

In light of the many unanswered questions, the college has formed a panel led by Dr. Dhakad and other senior doctors to investigate the circumstances surrounding Rekha's death. They have pledged to ensure that any findings of suspicion will be reported to the legal authorities.

Rekha, a 31-year-old from Madhna Khiriya village in Ashok Nagar, had joined GRMC in January 2024 and stayed in room 218 of the hostel. Her tragic death has left her family, friends, and colleagues searching for answers.
