Sheikh Hamdan's First Official India Visit Begins Tuesday

Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, will come to India on a two-day official visit starting Tuesday. He is also the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This visit is happening after an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as shared by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday.

This will be the Crown Prince’s first official visit to India in his role as the Crown Prince of Dubai. He will not be coming alone — several ministers, senior government officials, and top business leaders from the UAE will be part of his delegation.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi will host a special working lunch for Sheikh Hamdan. The Crown Prince will also meet with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

After spending time in Delhi, the Crown Prince will travel to Mumbai. In Mumbai, he will take part in a business roundtable where well-known business leaders from India and the UAE will gather. This meeting is expected to help both countries grow stronger in trade and explore new areas of business together.

Dubai has always played an important role in India’s relationship with the UAE — not only in business, but also in culture and people-to-people connections. Most of the 4.3 million Indians living in the UAE are based in Dubai. This visit by the Crown Prince is expected to make the relationship between India and the UAE even stronger, especially as part of their "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership."

Earlier this year, during his visit to the UAE from January 27 to 29, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar had personally invited Sheikh Hamdan to visit India. After their meeting, Mr. Jaishankar posted on social media that he was happy to meet the Crown Prince and called it a warm and friendly conversation. He also said that both sides are working to make the bond between the two countries stronger for the benefit of their people.

This visit is being seen as another big step in growing the close friendship and cooperation between India and the UAE.
