Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that a group of volunteers from Ukraine, the US, and Britain had checked into the hotel just before the attack. Luckily, they survived because they quickly found a safe place to hide. Zelenskyy shared a message on Telegram, saying, "Sadly, four people lost their lives in this attack. We must keep pushing Russia to stop this war and violence."
Serhiy Lysak, the governor of Dnipropetrovsk, said that 14 out of the 31 injured people were in serious condition and needed urgent treatment. Ukraine’s Emergency Services said that rescue workers had saved 19 people from the hotel. Photos showed them working in the dark, using ladders and special tools to remove the rubble. Smoke was coming from the damaged building, and almost all the windows were broken. A large crane was also used to help reach higher floors.
The missile not only damaged the hotel but also destroyed 14 apartment buildings, a post office, and 12 shops. Streets were covered in debris, and many people were shocked by the sudden attack.
Ukraine’s military said that Russian forces launched two ballistic missiles and 112 drones across Ukraine overnight. In Odesa, drones hit a power station, injuring two people. In Sumy, a drone attack killed one person and destroyed a storage building.
Kryvyi Rih, which is President Zelenskyy’s hometown, has been attacked many times since Russia started the war three years ago. The latest missile strike has once again brought sadness and fear to the city, adding to the growing pain of war.
