As the UAE gears up for the Eid Al Fitr holiday, residents are making plans for relaxation and travel. However, the main border crossing with Oman is notably quiet, with few queues in sight. This subdued atmosphere can be attributed to the fact that many residents are choosing to wait until after Ramadan to embark on their journeys.
For fasting individuals like Egyptian expat Rana El-Sayeh, traveling during Ramadan poses additional challenges. El-Sayeh, a Dubai resident, explains that fasting while traveling can be difficult, especially when it comes to enjoying resort amenities. She has opted to delay her travel plans until after Eid to ensure a more comfortable and fulfilling experience. Others echo similar sentiments, citing the desire to observe Ramadan properly before venturing out of the country.

Sehr Khan, another Dubai resident, highlights the practical difficulties of driving long distances while fasting. Khan plans to depart for Salalah after Eid prayers, with arrangements in place for shared driving responsibilities to alleviate the strain of fasting.
Despite expectations of heavy traffic at the UAE-Oman border, residents like M George have been pleasantly surprised by the smooth process. George, a former Oman resident, notes the minimal rush at the border checkpoints, allowing for a swift journey through. This contrasts with typical experiences during peak travel times, where long queues are the norm.
While residents are making their holiday plans, Dubai authorities are bracing for a significant influx of passengers in the coming days. Dubai Municipality anticipates approximately 3.6 million travelers from April 2 to April 15, prompting Dubai Customs to streamline processes for smoother travel into the city during this period.
In summary, while the Eid holiday promises relaxation and travel for many, the subdued activity at the UAE-Oman border reflects residents' cautious approach to travel during Ramadan, opting for post-Eid departures for a more comfortable and enjoyable experience.
