Officials have confirmed the death of Neel Acharya, an Indian student who went missing in Indiana, United States. Neel, a student at Purdue University's John Martinson Honors College pursuing a double major in computer science, had been missing since Sunday. His body, identified as that of a "college-aged male," was discovered on Purdue's campus.

Goury Acharya, the victim's mother, had appealed for help on social media when Neel went missing. She mentioned that he was last seen by an Uber driver around the university campus. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, "Our son Neel Acharya is missing since yesterday Jan 28 (12:30 AM EST). He is studying in Purdue University in the US. He was last seen by the Uber driver who dropped him off at Purdue University. We are looking for any info on him. Please help us if you know anything."

The news of Neel Acharya's death was conveyed to the university's computer science department by interim department head Chris Clifton. He expressed deep sorrow in an email, stating, "It is with great sadness that I inform you that one of our students, Neel Acharya, has passed away."

The Consulate General of India in Chicago has been actively engaged with officials and the families of the affected students, providing all possible support.

This tragic incident follows closely on the heels of another distressing event where a video surfaced showing a homeless man brutally attacking an Indian student named Vivek Saini with a hammer in a store, located in Lithonia, Georgia. Although the exact date of the incident is unconfirmed, the Consulate General of India in Atlanta condemned the attack. They promptly reached out to Saini's family, offering consular assistance in repatriating his mortal remains back to India.
