Iran has warned the United States that if it attacks, Iran will strike back at US bases in the region. This warning was given by Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Qalibaf, on Friday.
Earlier this month, former US President Donald Trump said he had sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In this letter, Trump warned Iran that it had two choices: either make a deal with the US or face military action.

Qalibaf replied to this threat with strong words. He said, “If America attacks Iran, the whole region will explode like a fire in a weapon store.” He also warned that US bases and those of its allies would not be safe if Washington decided to go to war.
Qalibaf made this speech on Al-Quds Day, also called Jerusalem Day. This day is observed every year on the last Friday of Ramadan. In Iran, leaders often use this event to speak against Western influence in the region.
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, rejected Trump’s letter, calling it misleading. Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, said that talks with the US would not happen unless Washington stopped putting heavy pressure on Iran. He said that Iran had studied Trump’s letter and sent a reply through Oman, but he did not say what the reply contained.
On Friday, state media reported that Araqchi also said Trump’s letter had both threats and some signs that diplomacy might be possible. However, he did not explain what kind of talks could take place between Iran and the US.
Tensions between the two countries have remained high since 2018, when Trump pulled the US out of the 2015 nuclear deal. This deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was made between Iran and world powers. It aimed to limit Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for relief from economic sanctions.
After the US left the deal and reimposed sanctions, Iran slowly stopped following the agreement. It increased its uranium enrichment beyond the allowed limits, which made Western countries worried. They suspect that Iran is trying to build nuclear weapons. However, Iran says its nuclear program is only for peaceful energy use.
Right now, both sides refuse to give in. The US wants a new agreement with stricter rules for Iran, while Iran says it will not negotiate under pressure. The risk of a military conflict is still there, as Iranian leaders continue to warn that they will strike back if the US attacks.
