His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra, visited the Liwa International Festival 2025 (LIWA 2025). The festival is in the Al Dhafra desert and will go on until 4 January 2025. It is a famous winter event in the UAE with fun activities, sports, and cultural events.
Sheikh Hamdan was joined by Sheikh Yas bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan. Important leaders like Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, head of Abu Dhabi’s Culture and Tourism Department, and other officials were also with him.

Sheikh Hamdan began his visit by touring the camping and RV grounds. These areas have local and international sellers showing outdoor and camping items. Next, he went to Liwa Village, where cultural programs, art events, and family activities are held. The village also has a stage for live music and shows.
He looked at some of the main attractions of the festival, like the Monster Jam truck show, the Hollywood Circus, and the Classic Cars exhibition. This car show has rare and old cars, which many visitors enjoy seeing. The festival mixes old traditions and modern activities, so it has something for everyone.
Later, Sheikh Hamdan attended the festival’s opening ceremony. He watched a short film about the history of the festival and its success. Then, he officially opened the event. Fireworks lit up the desert sky, and exciting performances on the sand dunes followed.
The festival will last for 23 days and is managed by Abu Dhabi’s Culture and Tourism Department. Other groups, like Liwa Sports Club, Al Dhafra Municipality, Abu Dhabi Police, and Abu Dhabi Media Network, also helped organise the event. It has become a favorite event for campers, adventurers, and sports lovers.
Visitors can enjoy many activities, such as desert adventures, traditional Emirati sports, car and bike races, and more. Famous drivers from around the world are taking part in exciting competitions. Families can also enjoy music, fireworks, and cultural shows in a fun atmosphere.
The festival offers many types of places to stay. Visitors can choose luxury hotels, desert lodges, or traditional Sadu tents. These tents give a real desert feel and make the stay special.
