DMCC (Dubai Multi Commodities Centre) has embarked on the second phase of its Uptown Dubai development, signifying a substantial enhancement to its real estate offerings. Functioning as a flagship free zone and the Government of Dubai Authority on commodities trade and enterprise, DMCC has commenced construction following the selection of Swissboring Overseas Piling Corporation to oversee foundational and enabling work.
Swissboring's key responsibilities encompass the implementation of basement retention systems for the three basement levels of the two towers, foundation work for the towers, podium levels, forthcoming bridges, dewatering operations, and excavation of the entire plot designated for phase two. The development will feature two mid-rise towers, measuring 23 and 17 stories, respectively, situated in the upscale Uptown Dubai neighborhood at the southernmost point of the city.
According to DMCC, these towers will incorporate 86,000 square feet of retail and food and beverage (F&B) space, along with 753,000 square feet of Grade A commercial office space, aligning with the sophisticated standards of the urban community. The completion of the two towers, alongside Uptown Tower and the two residential towers within Ellington Properties' recently opened Mercer House, means that over half of the district's planned towers have now been finalized.
The focal point of the district, The Plaza, will be surrounded by Uptown Dubai's nine towers, providing a vibrant array of events, including immersive art installations, music, film, and fashion shows. The total gross floor area (GFA) of Uptown Dubai upon completion is projected to be 5.8 million square feet, with 2.5 million square feet dedicated to commercial office space.
CEO and Executive Chairman Ahmed Bin Sulayem highlighted the success of Uptown Tower's opening last year as the driving force behind this expansion. The 81-story skyscraper houses branded residences and hotel rooms for the urban luxury hotel SO/ Uptown Dubai, along with offices for renowned companies such as Invisalign, Wellbred, Hikvision, and the Gemological Institute of America.
Bin Sulayem expressed confidence in replicating this success with the groundbreaking of Phase 2, stating, "As we mark the groundbreaking of Phase 2 of Uptown Dubai, we will aim to fully replicate this success with two new commercial towers adding to the expansion of our business district and DMCC’s overall value proposition." This further underscores DMCC's commitment to growth and the continued elevation of its business district.
