GCC Chief Reaffirms Gulf Nations' Commitment to Stability in Lebanon

Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has once again confirmed the GCC’s strong and unwavering support for Lebanon. He stated that the Gulf states are committed to backing Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, stability, and territorial integrity, especially during these challenging times.

Albudaiwi highlighted the need for Lebanon to carry out comprehensive political and economic reforms. According to him, these changes are essential for Lebanon to overcome its ongoing political and economic crisis and to move toward a brighter future.

This statement came after a phone call between the GCC Secretary-General and Lebanon’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdallah Bou Habib. During the conversation, Albudaiwi updated Bou Habib on the key outcomes of the 46th Extraordinary Session of the GCC Ministerial Council, which focused on the latest developments in Lebanon.

Outcomes of the GCC Meeting

The final statement from the Ministerial Council meeting reaffirmed the Gulf nations’ dedication to helping Lebanon achieve security and stability. It also expressed a commitment to fostering development and prosperity for the Lebanese people.

The Secretary-General explained that the statement strongly emphasized the importance of implementing key United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding Lebanon, especially Resolution 1701. This resolution calls for lasting peace and security, respect for Lebanon’s territorial borders, and its political independence.

In addition, the GCC urged Lebanon to follow the Taif Agreement. This agreement, reached in 1989, is seen as a framework for restoring peace and ensuring that the Lebanese government extends its authority across the entire country.

Importance of Global Cooperation

Albudaiwi also stressed the significance of working together with regional and international partners to address Lebanon’s challenges. He explained that continued coordination and discussions on important issues are crucial for improving security and stability in Lebanon and across the region.

The GCC Secretary-General's message reflects the Gulf states' ongoing support for Lebanon and their hope that the country will soon overcome its difficulties through unity, reform, and collaboration with the international community.
