FOCP leads key initiatives for 10th Gulf Cancer Awareness Week

The Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) is planning several key activities for February 2025 to celebrate the 10th Gulf Cancer Awareness Week. These efforts show FOCP's strong dedication to spreading cancer awareness and supporting patients. They also focus on educating the community about cancer prevention and care. The month-long activities align with the theme #YourHealthInYourAwareness. FOCP is working with patients, survivors, and the larger UAE community to raise awareness about how early detection and proper treatment can save lives.

During the first two weekends of February, FOCP focused on encouraging early detection, which is crucial because finding cancer early increases the chances of successful treatment. On February 1, FOCP participated in Cancer Run 2025, hosted by Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. At the event, their mobile clinic provided free breast examinations for women aged 20 and above. On February 8, FOCP joined another cancer run at Dubai Design District, again offering free breast screenings to participants.

FOCP also took part in the 12th Annual Marathon organized by Friends of Arthritis Patients in Al Mamzar, Sharjah. Their mobile clinic was present at the marathon, providing essential cancer screenings to runners and spectators alike.

To spread the message further, FOCP partnered with the Sharjah Commerce & Tourism Development Authority, a key collaboration to reach more people and raise cancer awareness through well-known public landmarks. To light up famous landmarks during the Sharjah Light Festival. The 10th Gulf Cancer Awareness Week logo was displayed across key locations. The Sharjah Art Museum shone in orange for World Cancer Day, while the House of Wisdom was lit purple, symbolizing cancer awareness globally.

Aisha Al Mulla, Director of FOCP, highlighted the importance of these initiatives. She said, "The 10th Gulf Cancer Awareness Week is a crucial time to renew our commitment to cancer awareness. Our goal is to involve the community, support patients, and provide essential education. Over the years, we have expanded our efforts by working with various partners and using data-driven strategies. This helps us improve our programs and better serve cancer patients across the UAE and the region."

FOCP also took part in the official opening ceremony of the 10th Gulf Cancer Awareness Week in Kuwait. This participation helped strengthen ties with other cancer advocacy organizations in the region, creating a united front against cancer.

Additionally, FOCP joined a panel discussion at the 3rd International UAE Rare Disease Society Congress. The session focused on the challenges of rare cancers and the importance of patient advocacy in addressing these challenges.

Through these activities, FOCP keeps reminding everyone how crucial early detection is, how powerful community support can be, and why cancer patients need consistent care. Their work during the 10th Gulf Cancer Awareness Week showcases their ongoing mission to fight cancer and support those affected by it.
