Explosion at Arkansas Defense Weapons Plant Leaves 2 Injured, 1 Missing

An explosion rocked the General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems' facility in Camden, Arkansas, situated approximately 86 miles south of Little Rock. Initially described as an "incident involving pyrotechnics," the company later confirmed it was indeed an explosion.

According to Berkley Whaley, a spokesperson for General Dynamics, the incident resulted in at least two injuries and one person reported missing. Emergency responders are actively engaged at the scene, and the company is fully cooperating with authorities as investigations into the cause of the explosion commence.

Production at the affected building has been halted as safety measures are prioritized. Specific details regarding the extent of injuries sustained have not been disclosed by the company at this time.

The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management has been monitoring the situation closely and stands prepared to provide assistance as needed, although further specifics were not immediately available.

At the Ouachita County Medical Center, one injured individual received treatment and is reportedly in stable condition, according to Diane Isaacs, the hospital's risk manager. Another patient was airlifted out of state for further medical attention. The hospital has been advised that no additional patients are expected.

General Dynamics, known globally for its aerospace and defense operations, operates the Camden plant, which encompasses over 880,000 square feet of manufacturing and storage space. The facility supports various military programs, including the production of Hellfire and Javelin missiles, as well as mortar munitions, as detailed on the company's official website.
