In a significant shift, certain public parks in Dubai have abandoned the acceptance of Nol cards for entry, opting for alternative payment methods. Visitors have reported the removal of the Nol card system, signaling a transition that follows the collaborative partnership announced between Dubai Municipality and Du during GITEX. The initiative aimed to introduce innovative solutions for ticketless entry, streamlined identity management, and the enhancement of IT skills, worker satisfaction, and sustainability in public parks.
Months after the collaboration's announcement, a Dubai Municipality customer care representative confirmed the elimination of the Nol card payment system in most parks, with the exception of the Quranic Park. The new approach, introduced in October, revolves around a modified ticketing system. Visitors can now purchase tickets using cash or credit cards, which are subsequently scanned at devices formerly dedicated to Nol card functions at park entrances.
The changes have prompted reactions from park-goers, with some expressing surprise at the removal of the familiar Nol card system. A Deira resident shared her astonishment at Mamzar Beach Park's shift away from Nol cards, recounting the need to purchase tickets with barcodes for entry. Similarly, a Zabeel Park visitor noted that the modification had been in effect since October.
Tickets for park entry are now obtainable through conventional means, such as cash or credit cards, and new contactless methods like Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay at certain parks. This shift signifies a departure from the 2017 Dubai Municipality mandate, which required park visitors to possess Nol cards for entry. The green Nol card, available for Dh25, was essential for those without one.
The phased implementation of smart payment systems, varying across parks, indicates ongoing adjustments to the evolving entry protocols. While some parks offer the convenience of smartphone-based payments, others continue to adapt to these emerging trends.
For locals accustomed to the convenience of Nol cards for park visits, this transformation marks the end of an era. The transition signals a broader initiative aimed at modernizing park entry procedures, aligning with Dubai's commitment to technological innovation and visitor experience enhancement. The evolving landscape of park entry systems underscores the city's continuous efforts to embrace cutting-edge solutions, streamlining processes for both residents and tourists.
