Kirsten Corley files for divorce from Chance the Rapper, eight months after their separation.

Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley are making their split official, as Corley filed for divorce from the 31-year-old musician on Friday, December 13. This comes months after the couple announced their separation earlier this year. TMZ first reported the news of the divorce filing.

"After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways," the couple shared in a joint Instagram statement back in April. "We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time spent together."

Chance and Corley share two daughters, Kensli, 9, and Marlie, 5. The court documents did not specify whether Corley is seeking child support. In their earlier statement, the couple emphasized their commitment to co-parenting their children. Chance, whose full name is Chancelor Bennett, met Corley for the first time at an office party with his mother when he was just nine years old. They reconnected in 2012 at the Southwest Film Festival and began dating soon after.

The pair welcomed their first daughter, Kensli, in September 2015, but their relationship faced challenges. In 2016, Corley filed a petition in Cook County Circuit Court to establish paternity and secure child support from Chance. However, she withdrew the filing in January 2017 after the two reconciled. A month later, Chance expressed gratitude to his wife and daughter during his Grammy acceptance speech.

The couple tied the knot in March 2019 after Chance proposed during a Fourth of July backyard party in 2018. Their wedding, held in Newport Beach, California, was attended by celebrities like Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, and Dave Chappelle. In August 2019, they welcomed their second daughter, Marlie, which Corley announced on Instagram with a photo of the newborn. Following Marlie's birth, Chance postponed some of his tours to focus on family time, citing regrets about missing milestones with his elder daughter.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Chance cherished spending quality time with his daughters. In an interview with People, he described their days as filled with games, dancing, and watching cartoons.
