Dubai Municipality, in partnership with the Community Development Authority (CDA), has introduced a new initiative called ‘Safe Water for a Healthy Community.’ This initiative is designed to ensure that the water systems in homes and villas of senior citizens in Dubai are safe and meet the highest quality standards. The initiative aligns with the UAE’s 2025 Year of the Community, highlighting the country’s commitment to building a strong, supportive, and sustainable society.
Ensuring Clean and Safe Water at Home
The initiative is part of Dubai Municipality’s continuous efforts to protect public health. It aims to prevent water contamination by testing and improving water systems. Experts will conduct technical assessments and laboratory tests to identify and fix any possible issues in water quality, ensuring that all homes comply with international safety standards.
In the first phase, the initiative will cover 42 homes and villas in 10 different areas of Dubai. Trained engineering teams will carry out detailed inspections, take water samples, and test them at Dubai Central Laboratory. If any problems are found, corrective actions will be taken in collaboration with water treatment experts to make sure the water remains safe for residents.

Spreading Awareness on Water Safety
Alongside inspections, Dubai Municipality and CDA will conduct awareness workshops in Dubai councils. These sessions will educate people about the importance of maintaining clean water systems, how to check water quality at home, and ways to prevent contamination.
A Commitment to Public Health and Sustainability
Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafee, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health, and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, highlighted the importance of this project in protecting the well-being of senior citizens. He stated:
“This initiative reflects Dubai Municipality’s dedication to creating a healthy and safe environment for the community. By taking preventive measures, we aim to improve water quality, reduce health risks, and ensure a sustainable healthcare system in Dubai. Engaging the community through education and proactive steps is key to achieving a safer and healthier future for all.”
Dr. Naseem also stressed the need for regular water testing at home. Ensuring that household water remains free from bacteria and harmful chemicals is crucial in preventing diseases and protecting public health.
Prioritizing Senior Citizens’ Well-being
Muhannad Saeed, Director of the Senior Citizens Department at CDA, emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader effort to improve the quality of life for senior citizens. He stated:
“Safe water at home is essential for senior citizens’ health and comfort. Our partnership with Dubai Municipality ensures that the water they use is of the highest quality. In addition to inspections and maintenance, raising awareness about regular water checks helps prevent health risks and contributes to the well-being of our senior citizens. We believe these efforts will create a safer and more supportive environment for them.”
Encouraging Residents to Follow Water Safety Practices
Dubai Municipality urges all residents to take simple but important steps to keep their household water clean and safe. People should clean and disinfect their water tanks and plumbing systems at least once every six months. Only companies approved by Dubai Municipality should be used for these services. Regular maintenance prevents pollutants from accumulating and ensures that the water system functions properly, reducing health risks.
Another important tip is to drain stagnant water regularly. Standing water can lead to bacterial growth and contamination, affecting water quality. Keeping water systems well-maintained ensures a safe and hygienic supply for every household.
A Long-Term Vision for Water Safety
Through the ‘Safe Water for a Healthy Community’ initiative, Dubai Municipality and CDA are working together to create long-term solutions for water safety. By combining inspections, awareness campaigns, and community involvement, the initiative aims to enhance public health and promote sustainable living across Dubai.
